To use phonic knowledge to decode regular words and read them aloud accurately.
Sound it out, blend to read the word, 1 at a time
Show children the picture and discuss what it is. Do children know what the name of the object is? It is a spaceship – have you seen one before? What creatures do we find in spaceships?
What do you think the aliens want from the man? Discuss and share ideas. Do children think they are kind aliens?
Do you know any stories about aliens? Introduce the new story ‘Aliens Love Underpants’ and read the first 2 pages discussing what the aliens have come to Earth for. Look at the page with all of the different underpants on it. Children to describe the different underpants. Encourage children to use full sentences and adjectives to describe them.
