Introduce poem of how we write the number 9. Model air writing the number 9. Draw number block 9 and write everything we know – one more, one less, 0+9=9 1+8=9 2+7=9 3+6=9 4+5=9 talk about takeaway 10-1=9
This week we are going to be taking away. When we take away something the number gets smaller. Using the bus and people, model the directed activity, if there are 5 people on the bus and 2 get off how many would be left? Model writing number sentence 5-2=3. Model some other examples and how to write the number sentences.
Using the alien power point children are to help solve the different questions. Model TOL for the first question and how we find the answer. Ask children to work out the next ones and use thumbs up/down to see if children agree with the answers.
Can chn use loose parts to write number sentences on their whiteboards in learning circles? Model first one… I have 3 pebbles and 1 is taken away so I have two left therefore 3-1=2. Share some chns number sentences with the class, do we agree?
