This week we will be building on our numbers beyond 10! We will be introducing the numbers 11,12 and 13. Learning Intention:

To count objects to 10, and beginning to count beyond 10.

Monday:

Re-cap the poems of how we write the numbers 1-9 and introduce 11. Model air writing the numbers. Draw the number block 11 and discuss everything we know – one more, one less etc. Use I spy 11 sheet to model finding some of the objects that represent 11. Make a mistake, can chn correct you?

Re-cap the poems of how we write the numbers 1-9 and introduce 12. Model air writing the numbers. Draw the number block 12 and discuss everything we know – one more, one less etc. In learning circles give chn numbers 10, 11, 12 and 13. Can they match the correct amount to the number?

Re-cap the poems of how we write the numbers 1-9 and introduce 13. Model air writing the numbers. Draw the number block 13 and discuss everything we know – one more, one less etc. Using two tens frames model counting out ten counters. Then model 11, 12 and 13. What do you notice? Can they see a pattern? As numbers begin to above 10 they need a full tens frames then ones to make the number. What would happen for 14?

Thursday:

Now we know all about numbers 11, 12 and 13 model using the numicon to represent 10 and 11. Ask chn to tell you how many for 12 and 13. What would happen for 14? What is the pattern? How would we make the number 18, 20 etc.

Use the numicon city. We know smaller numbers make up a number ie 2 +8 = 10. What different numbers can we use to make the skyscrapers? Class discussion.

Friday:

Recap over the weeks learning of numbers 11,12 and 13. Revisit the tens frame and skyscraper using the learning wall. Today we are going to play a game. Provide chn with numbers and numicon, can they find their partners? Use different numbers and numicon and can chn continue to find their partners?
