In English this week, we will be continuing our unit on instruction writing. This week, we will complete writing our set of instructions (explaining to someone, how to complete an archaeological dig) before editing and revising our work. Finally, we will create a polished piece.
In Maths, this week our focus is decimals. We start with understanding thousandths before moving onto understanding decimals. Later in the week we will be learning to order and compare decimals before ending the week with a range of problem solving tasks linked to this week’s objectives.
In Reading Comprehension this week, we are continuing our illustrations unit on the pictures from the book, Sleeper and the Spindle.
Wider Curriculum – this week we will be moving onto our summer geography unit where our focus country is Wales. We will be learning the major cities in Wales (and their location) and about land use in rural and urban areas of the country. We will also spend a day learning about topographical features (specifically, how hills and mountains are represented using contour lines) and finish the week with a lesson on four-figure grid references and how we can use these to locate features on an Ordnance Survey map.
You will also find resources for our Jigsaw lesson this week. Please remember to continue to practice your spellings and read at home as often as possible.
We hope you have a great week.
The Year 5 team.
