In English this week, we will be continuing our unit on writing a diary entry. This week, we will be doing drama to immerse ourselves in our learning before writing our diary extract as an Anglo-Saxon man or woman.
In Maths, this week our focus is Decimals. We start learning how to add decimals within 1 before moving onto subtracting decimals within 1. We will then look at complements to one before learning how to add and subtract decimals crossing the whole. We will be finishing the week by practising some test-style questions.
In Reading, we will be continuing with more retrieval tasks using our class text, Beowulf. We will also be looking at words in context. For our 1 hour, weekly reading comprehension lesson we be completing some test style questions and looking how to expand our answers for 2 or 3 mark questions
Wider Curriculum – this week we will be moving onto our summer Art unit where our focus is the Bayeux Tapestry. We will start the week looking at what the Bayeux Tapestry is and what it represents. We will then learn about drawing using the continuous line method and how we can draw images from the Bayeux Tapestry using this method. We will then learn some of the various stitches used when creating an embroidery and analysing the purpose for each of them. We will then create our own embroidery of images taken from the Bayeux Tapestry using our learning from the week before finishing the week reflecting and evaluating our work.
You will also find resources for our Jigsaw lesson this week. Please remember to continue to practice your spellings and read at home as often as possible.
We hope you have a great week.
The Year 5 team.
