In English this week, our unit is a recount. Our recount this week will be in the form on a newspaper article, specifically on the flooding Bentley experience in the past few years. This week our aim is to finish our newspaper article before spending time edit and improving it before finally completing a polished piece of writing.
In Maths, this week our focus continues to be fractions. We start with the addition and subtraction of fractions before moving onto multiplication of fractions – both integers then mixed numbers and improper fractions.
In Reading Comprehension this week, we start a new book: The Sleeper and the Spindle. A retelling of the sleeping beauty fairy tale but from different character perspectives. This week our focus will be understanding inferences from illustrations.
Wider Curriculum – this week we begin our Summer history focus – The Anglo Saxons. In this first we week we will investigate where and why the Anglo Saxons came to Britain, as well as connecting this to why the Vikings arrived. Furthermore, we will study the changes in Saxon religion as well as the rather odd laws they had for crime and punishment.
You will also find resources for our Jigsaw lesson this week. Please remember to continue to practice your spellings and read at home as often as possible.
We hope you have a great week and a wonderful start to term.
The Year 5 team.
