In English this week, we will be completing our unit on writing a diary entry. This week, we will spend one day editing our work, one day improving our work and on Thursday we will create our polished piece.
In Maths, we will continue our work on decimals. We start learning how to add and subtract decimals with different decimal places and with whole numbers. We will then look at decimal sequences before moving onto learning how to multiply and divide decimals by 10, 100 and 1000. We will finish the week with some reasoning test practise questions.
In Reading, we will be starting a new unit on poetry using the book ‘Sky in the Pie’ by Roger McGough. We will be focusing on developing our fluency and performance skills by learning some poetry by heart and through preparing a poem to perform (demonstrating understanding through intonation, tome and volume).
Wider Curriculum – this week we have review week. This means for each wider curriculum lesson we will be focusing our attention to a subject we have covered throughout Summer Term 1. We start by revisiting D&T and looking at how chocolate is made. We will then have an afternoon based on our history learning about the Anglo-Saxons. We then move onto geography where our focus was Wales and developing our geographical map reading skills. Finally, we will review our RE learning where we considered the questions ‘What does it mean to be a Muslim in Britain today?’.
You will also find resources for our Jigsaw lesson this week. Please remember to continue to practice your spellings and read at home as often as possible.
We hope you have a great week.
The Year 5 team.
