In English this week, we will be focusing on SPAG. We start by looking at a new target, modal verbs. We will then revisit previously taught targets on parenthesis and possessive apostrophes to consolidate our learning.
In Maths, we will be starting our geometry unit. We start by learning how to measure angles in degrees before moving onto measuring with a protractor. We then will focus on drawing lines accurately before ending the week learning how to calculate angles on a straight line and around a point.
In Reading, we will be starting a new unit on poetry using the book ‘The Highwayman’ by Alfred Noyes. Our focus will be the vocabulary used and identifying figurative language devices.
Wider Curriculum – this week is music. We start the week looking at haikus inspired by cherry blossom and creating melodies to play alongside our haikus. We then move on to learning about the samba including its origins and its rhythms. We will then learn how to compose a break before including these breaks in a whole class performance.
You will also find resources for our Jigsaw lesson this week. Please remember to continue to practice your spellings and read at home as often as possible.
We hope you have a great week.
The Year 5 team.
