In reading comprehension we will be studying a small section of the book The Sleeper and the Spindle – a retelling of the classic Sleeping Beauty tale. We will be focused on how can different words dramatically change the context and meaning of a piece of text.
In English this week, we will be completing our unit of writing: Persuasive leaflets. Our first lesson involves researching, in detail, the focus for our piece Chichen Itza. We will use the internet and a variety of different texts to do this.
After, on Wednesday we will plan our persuasive leaflet. How can we bring together all of our facts using persuasive devices? Finally, on Thursday, we will write out persuasive leaflet.
In maths, we will be continuing our unit on multiplication and division. We will start the week completing our work on multiplication by looking at multiplying 4 digits by 2 digits. We will then start our work on division focusing on dividing 2 and 3 digit numbers by 1 digit, before moving onto dividing 4 digits by 1 digit and then division with remainders. We will end the week completing some problem solving and reasoning questions on multiplication and division.
Wider Curriculum – This week we will be doing art. We will be looking at the Juan Sisay, who was a Guatemalan artist. We will be thinking about the colours used by him and other artists, and the emotions the artists are wanting to convey through the use of these. We will also look at how Juan Sisay uses shapes in his artwork before creating our own, original pieces of artwork inspired by Juan Sisay.
This week is also mental health week. With this in mind, we would like you to do an activity once a day linked to mental health, mindfulness and well-being. Our art topic this week covers emotions and expression so we have decided to look at the activity on music and how we can express ourselves through the use of music. We have included a list of suggestions and activities for you to try at home, and there is a PowerPoint with a positive affirmation for each day we would like you to practise saying to yourself. We would love to see photos or videos of what you have been up to on Seesaw.
Please continue to practice your spellings and read at home as often as possible. There are also 3 handwriting sheets, which practice our spellings list. Remember, try to complete a PE activity on Wednesday afternoon and there are also resources for a Jigsaw lesson on Friday.
We hope you have a great week.
Love, the Year 5 team
