Simply the BEST!

Week Commencing 12th October

Hi everyone!

Here we have your work for this week if you are at home.

In Reading for the next two weeks we will be looking at three different books, Tuesday by David Wiesner, FArTHER by Grahame Baker-Smith and Street Child by Berlie Doherty. These books are different as one is a picture book, one has only a few words and the last book has text but no illustrations. Whilst looking at these three books, we will be making inferences from what we see in the text and the illustrations. Our main focus for this reading unit is to make predictions based on what we read and what we see in a book. At the end of the two-week block, we would like to complete a book evaluation stating which of the three books you preferred and why.

In English, this week we will be continuing our focus on poetry about the planets in our Solar System. We begin by planning our poem, stanza by stanza before moving on to writing up in neat.

At the end of the week our extended write focus is again space themed – a narrative of the mysterious planet Pandora.

In maths, we will be starting a new block, statistics. At the start of the week we will learn to interpret charts, then moving onto to comparison, sum and difference questions using charts, tables and graphs. We will then introduce line graphs before finishing the week completing problem solving and reasoning questions.

In topic, we have one more history lesson to finish – Was the moon landing a hoax?

After that, we will begin our geography model. The focus is planet earth, why is it the only habitable planet in the solar system? What are the features of planet earth and finally what is the history of planet earth?

Have a wonderful week!

Love, the Year 5 team
