Week Commencing 1/3/2021
In English this week, we will be finishing our unit on persuasive writing. On Tuesday, we will start the week by planning our persuasive letter, thinking about which details we need to include.
On Wednesday our task is to begin wiring our persuasive letter, to try and convince game developers to unban certain people. Finally, on Thursday we will spend time editing and improving our letter making it even better and more persuasive.
In maths, we are continuing our unit on fractions. This will involve looking at a variety of different fractions and how we add them, subtract them especially with different amounts and different denominators. Our times table focus for the week is the 10s.
In reading comprehension this week our focus is on a mixture of different comprehension skills. We will focus on a text about the country Brazil, this will involve skills including retrieval and inference skills.
Wider Curriculum – This week there is no specific one focus for our afternoon lessons. Instead we will be completing a variety of different activities based on themes from next week. On Monday our focus is on Fair Trade week, will complete activities to do with Free Trade around the world. On Tuesday our focus is on careers, with activities based on future careers for children. Wednesday our focus turns to PE and Jigsaw. On Thursday is World Book Day, so we will be completing activities based on a specific author: Michael Murpurgo. Finally on Friday we will be completing a review of our week, recapping key learning points and details.
Please continue to practice your spellings and read at home as often as possible. There are also 3 handwriting sheets, which practice our spellings list. Remember, try to complete a PE activity on Wednesday afternoon, as well as some daily exercise, taken from the Active Fusion sheets. There is also resources for a Jigsaw lesson (about being healthy) on Friday afternoon.
We hope you have a great week.
Love, the Year 5 team
