Here we have your work for this week if you are at home.
This week we are having a review week in school. This means that instead of doing any new learning we will be looking back at what we have learnt so far this year and reflecting on what we have remembered well, and what we need to practise a little more.
For this week’s reading, we will be revisiting the book Street Child by Berlie Doherty. Some of you may remember this book was about a boy called Jim, which is set in Victorian England. I have included a ‘What we know so far’, just to jog your memory. As you are all familiar with the text, I would like you to practise some of the skills you have learnt in year 5; Words in context, retrieve and record information, summarising, using inference skills and making predictions using the text to support these.
In English, our focus will be on our SPAG objectives (conjunctions, figurative language for description, and use of relative clauses). The main focus of our writing involves looking at letters. We will study the layout and key features of a letter, before planning on to send to Amelia Wishart to convince her to save Christmas.
In extended write we a writing a narrative description of the first humans landing on the planet Pandora.
In maths, as with all the other subjects, we will be reviewing everything we have covered so far. This includes place value, addition and subtraction and statistics. There is a task for each of the key focuses of the above subject blocks. Please try to complete as many as possible.
Topic; so far this term we have covered DT, Geography, History and Science. Therefore, you will be completing a variety of tasks linked to what you have already been taught in each foundation subject in year 5.
In jigsaw we have an anti-bullying, anti-racism focus. We will study how people around the world show their support for anti-bullying and racism, before creating our own Anti-Bullying/Anti-Racism ribbon for people to wear as a badge.
Please continue to practice your spellings, and read (and record in your planner) three times per week. Remember, you will be entered into the raffle if you do this!
We hope you have a great week.
Love, the Year 5 team
