Here we have your work for this week if you are at home.
In reading comprehension, we will be studying pieces from a book of incredible engineering. Our learning intention will be to identify how meaning is enhanced through choice of words and phrases within a text.
In English this week, we will be starting our new unit of writing. Our focus in based on the Mondays theme: Martin Luther King Day. We will be researching and creating an in-depth fact file about MLK.
In maths, our focus is on Perimeter and Area. We will start the week counting squares as an introduction to area. We will then move onto looking at the area of rectangles and compound shapes, before moving onto learning how to find the area of irregular shapes. We will finish the week completing some problem solving and reasoning questions on both perimeter and area. You also have a different times table activity to do each day, this week we will work on our 4s.
Wider Curriculum: History. We begin our module on the Ancient Mayans of Mexico and central America. Why did they survive for so long? What religious traditions did they follow? What was their diet made from primarily?
Please continue to practice your spellings and read at home as often as possible. There are also 3 handwriting sheets, which practice our spellings list. Remember, try to complete a PE activity on Wednesday afternoon and there are also resources for a Jigsaw lesson on Friday.
We hope you have a great week.
Love, the Year 5 team
