In English this week, we will be starting a new unit of writing; a narrative based on an Anglo-Saxon battle, with the purpose of interesting Year 4 children in the Anglo-Saxons in time for the start of next school year. This week we will complete some drama and a plan before our write.
In Maths, we will be continuing our geometry unit. First we will continue our work with 3D shapes. After, our maths moves onto working with coordinates and shapes in the first quadrant, using symmetry and translation to manipulate them.
In Reading, we will be continuing our new reading book ‘The Velveteen Rabbit’ by Margery Williams. This week we will continue to focus on our prediction and inference skills.
Wider Curriculum – this week is DT. Our focus will be on Anglo-Saxon structures. We start the week investigating different types of Anglo-Saxon structure, considering effective and ineffective designs before planning using labelled diagrams and exploded diagrams. After, we will be attempting to create our own using a variety of materials, primarily polystyrene bricks to replicate Saxon mudbricks. Finally, once complete we will evaluate our designs to see if they could be improved further.
We hope you have a great week.
The Year 5 team.
